SAP BPC and BI-integrated Planning

SAP provides several tools for planning and consolidation.

Most of these applications are located in the BI environment and use the central data management and BI technologies.

Over time, these tools have been developed continuously and replaced by new, more powerful. The current SAP BPC (Business Planning & Consolidation) and BI-integrated planning, are described below.

SAP Business Planning and Consolidation (BPC)

SAP BPC combines planning and consolidation functionalities in an application with comprehensive data storage. The result; improved data quality and better user-friendliness through trusted interfaces, are just some of the advantages of the application.

The solution supports planning, budgeting and forecasting capabilities. In the area of ​​consolidation, both management and legal consolidation are considered, thus ensuring legal standards and compliance guidelines are easily maintained. You receive all the necessary information needed to make your decisions.

Planning and Consolidation with SAP

SAP Business Planning and Consolidation allows you to create accurate plans and forecasts that significantly reduce the turnaround time of budgeting cycles. Besides additional planning functions that are installed along with the add-in for MS Excel, the complete set of functions including ‘VLOOKUP’ are also available.

The Consolidation Centre in Web Client provides capabilities that support the consolidation process. The Consolidation Monitor and Shareholdings Manager generate and monitor consolidated data from both groups and single entities. Journals are used to create manual entries in the event of changes and corrections to collected and consolidated data. In addition, the MS Excel add-in provides data packages for consolidation processes.

Data Management

SAP Business Planning and Consolidation is an application for planning, budgeting, and consolidation. By eliminating the need for multiple solutions, it ensures a consistent user experience and saves you time and money. Both master and transactional data are stored centrally in SAP BW objects.

Data can be imported through a variety of ways: by input forms in MS Excel, or a web-based upload of flat files, or by data loads through standard BW info providers. During the upload process, it is possible to change or transform the data. All changes to data are documented by the audit log and are therefore traceable.

Reporting and Analysis

With this application you can prepare financial and management reports, and perform complex financial and operational analyses. The application can also be used offline for when working on the go. The Web 2.0 and Excel interface offers drag-and-drop functionality for simple and flexible report generation.

The freedom to customise your reports and input forms, will certainly meet all your specific business requirements. With SAP Business Planning and Consolidation various sources of data can be analysed and edited.

Web & Excel Client

The application supports the following processes:

  • Preparation of monthly or annual budgets
  • Creation of flexible projections taking into account different scenarios
  • Continuous Planning
  • Consolidation and period end functions

With the help of business process flows in the application, the staff are led by planning and consolidation processes. An automated "Review & Submit" process allows users to review and release data on MS Excel or the web client, thus enhanced data quality can be guaranteed. Furthermore, there is a comment function available to ensure accurate record-keeping.

Interaction between SAP ERP and SAP BPC

SAP Business Planning and Consolidation is fully integrated into the world of SAP. Current data generated from operational processes in SAP ERP, can be easily loaded from the ERP system or from BW Info-Providers into the Business Planning and Consolidation Module.

Through its simple and practical user interfaces, the tool offers great functionality for creating budgets, forecasts, monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.

BI-integrated Planning

BI Integrated Planning is integrated into the SAP BI infrastructure for the implementation of planning scenarios. All three levels of corporate planning are supported:

  • Implementation planning
  • Operational Planning
  • Strategic Planning

The integration of planning in BI brings several advantages. Firstly, plan data can be recorded in an environment with other company data and analysed together, and secondly, direct, simplified and automated access to current data is possible. Another advantage is that many users with knowledge of already existing and well-known BI tools and objects (some with advanced features) can be used for reporting and storage of plan data.

From the application perspective, BI Integrated Planning has several advantages:

  • Many standard planning features are already available and can be used immediately (for example revaluation, Posting changes, currency and unit conversion, distribution using keys or reference data, generating combinations, etc.)
  • With the formula editor ‘FOX’, additional planning algorithms can be created if standard planning functions are not sufficient. This tool is extremely flexible and formulas of all kinds can be defined, be it very simple, or highly complex. Knowledge of Programming is not necessary to use this tool.
  • If neither the standard planning functions nor the formula editor can provide you with a solution to suit your requirements. You can create your own customer-specific planning functions. For this however, ABAP programming skills are required.
