HMH – consultancy project for process optimization

The project began in April 2005 with the creation of a roadmap based on a current status analysis of business processes. The current status analysis, together with the established strengths and weaknesses checklist formed the basis for preparing a tender for new business management software. Following a software evaluation phase, it was decided to keep the installed software and adapt it to the specific requirements of the company.

As the greatest need for action lay in the process used in order processing, the planning phase for re-engineering this was initiated in the fourth quarter of 2005. Process optimization was successfully completed in 2006 and included:

• warehouse reorganization
• complete revision of the article master (classification according to E-class standards)
• scheduling reorientation
• clear separation between the technology, purchasing, scheduling, job preparation and parts sales functions and
• organizational restructuring of those departments.
• In parallel, an EDM system was acquired and integrated with the ERP system (materials master and parts list).

For the current year 2007 the following process optimization is planned:

• implementation of service processes
• introduction of a CRM system
• customer/partner communication via personalized access in the corporate portal (currently under development)
• implementation of project management software and a document information system
• installation of a knowledge database and
• closer involvement of partners by establishing parts warehouses and acquiring a parts distribution network for local customers. An overall concept was developed for this, taking into account the integration aspects of the specified processes/systems.
